Hi, I'm Marissa!
Welcome!
I am a counseling intern completing my second-year psychotherapy internship with Being Human Group. In my first internship I had the opportunity to provide therapy to fathers who wanted to build better relationships with their children.
In the therapy room:
My clinical practice follows a psychodynamic framework which places a strong emphasis on the interpersonal relationship between client and therapist. I work to deeply understand each of my clients and through that process help them better understand themselves. Through pursuing deep knowledge of ourselves and our past, we move towards greater freedom in choosing our next steps and living our lives to the fullest. I am interested in working with children, adolescents, and adults. Some areas of interest in my clinical work are anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief.
My training:
I am currently a distance student studying counseling at The Institute for Clinical Social Work, based in Chicago, IL. I will be completing my master’s in counseling and psychotherapy in the spring of 2024. Last spring, I completed an internship with a nonprofit in Flint, MI that serves fathers who are committed to becoming more involved in their children’s lives. I developed and administered a trauma screener for the organization and provided individual therapy to fathers in the program. Additionally, I volunteered for two years at Ele’s Place in Ann Arbor, a children’s grief center, working as a teen group facilitator. I currently work as a wellness group facilitator for young adults at Garrett’s Space, a local suicide-prevention nonprofit.
Outside the office:
I have two dogs who bring a lot of laughter and joy to my life. I enjoy hiking, listening to live music, and spending time with family.
